Russia was celebrating another wonderful holiday yesterday. That was the International Women’s Day. This time it was women’s turn to get presents, bunches of spring flowers, congratulations, listen to warm pleasant words… Every year plenty of women wait for this holiday not only to find out that they are beautiful and loved. The 8th of March is the very beginning of spring and soon warm and sunny days will start. Besides this was an extra day-off to celebrate the holiday with families and friends.

What to do in Karelia?

Karelia is a really amazing place. I can definitely advise any tourist to visit it! And of course I will explain to you why!

As for me, the best season to travel to Karelia is summer. There are a lot of entertainments such as swimming, taking sun bathes and just feel the beauty of Karelian nature. There are great amount of lakes and rivers in Karelia. I think everybody knows the Lakes Onega and Ladoga. In July water in them is rather warm so it is really rush to swim there!

Of course the most beautiful place in Karelia is Kizhi Island. It is popular all over the world. According to a legend the churches are made without irons, so this Island is really worth seeing. You can also visit many Karelian villages, where old traditions and customs are still kept. There are wooden houses, which are surrounded by wild nature and sometimes by wild animals. So it is really unforgettable to plunge into such a fairytale.

In summer it is also interesting to see places of interest in Petrozavodsk itself. Our town is very beautiful with a lot of museums, monuments, galleries and just beautiful views. For example, the embankment of Onega is really fantastic. Almost every person spends his/her free time there. There are nice monuments-presents made by our sister-cities.

Karelia is astonishing not only in summer. Many people like Karelian winters most of all. And I can understand them very well. Snow is lying everywhere: in the streets, on the trees, on the cars, and it is shining in the sun. So take a camera and take pictures of this beauty!!! And of course extreme sports!!! Now it is very popular to go into snowboarding. Personally I tried snowboarding in a wonderful place called Spasskaja guba. If you like adrenalin rush this place is certainly for you!!!

Finally, it is necessary to admit that Karelia is place of majestic nature, small and wide rivers, blue lakes and green forests. This is the land of many ancient peoples, which heritage is really unique and which traditions compel to be delighted. There are a lot of entertainments in any season, so visit Karelia and you will not regret!!!
