Kevin O’Connor, Ireland: “The course was very well structured with many useful topics. As for my teacher, Elza was very nice. She had a good style of teaching and her classes were enjoyable. I would also like to thank her for her patience. Besides it was a pleasure to live with my host family. They were all very friendly and nice and did everything they could to make me feel at home. I always felt looked after. As for the volunteers, Katya was the most helpful to me. All her information was very useful and she is very friendly. I’m grateful for all her help. I would recommend this program to others, so I believe it has helped with my Russian language and it is a great chance to experience living in Russia.” Tim (Martinus) Clement, the Netherlands: “During the Russian language course an effective way of learning is used. I had very good teachers! And one-to-one is nicer and better than group lessons. My family was nice and very kind. They were very helpful. It was interesting: “how life in Russia is”! The volunteers are very nice people and they made my time in Ptz even nicer. I am the only student but still they organized a lot of activities, that it very nice! I think I learned a lot at “Enjoy Russian” and may be I come back this summer together with a good friend of mine.” Luc Hermann, Belgium: “The content of the Russian language course in terms of Russian language school “Enjoy Russian” was really fantastic! So was the teaching! I like all teachers, they were professional and competent. As for teaching materials I wish there will be more grammatical exercises inside. My host family was extremely good!!! Thank you for Sonja and Roman!!! The cultural program was good. It was amazing to visit all museums in Petrozavodsk! It should be mentioned that the volunteers were excellent. Thanks for their engagement! All in all the organization and administration of the program was good! Staying in Russia left an unforgettable impression on me!!!” Tilde Geerardyn, Belgium: “I think that the Russian language course was good. And I appreciated the way of teaching! The living conditions were also great! But most of all I like the cultural program. The excursion to Kizhi Island was very captivating, but it was a pity that we had to get back earlier, because of the storm. As for the regional museum, it was very interesting, but unfortunately I couldn’t understand what the guide was saying. The volunteers, Katja and Ksenija were very helpful, especially in the bank where we had to exchange money. So, I think that “Enjoy Russian” is a very useful initiative; I learned a lot about Russian and Russia! It was a very good experience!”
Lise Goussey, Belgium: “From my point of view the content of the program was wonderful! The teachers were well-prepared and I like my host family. As almost everybody I think that Kizhi Island was very nice. The guide explained everything in English, so it was very understandable. I like it more than the excursions to the museums. The volunteers were very helpful. So, the organization of the program was excellent, the general impression about the program was good too!!!”
Christian Schwarz, Austria: “My teacher Natasha was very good, because she spoke English, so it was easier for me. She helped me very much. Teaching was good. So were the living conditions. My host Lena is a very good teacher, I didn’t understand the Russian language very good, but I understood Lena. We also went to see Karelian peoples! The cultural program was rather good. I can admit that the volunteers were very good too. I definitely like the organization and administration of the program. It was good that I saw Russia in a new way. In the past I thought that life could be dangerous in this country, but now I have learnt that it is a little bit like in western countries.”
Tomasz Jerzy Ewertowski, Poland: “I like the content of the Russian language course, I think it was good. I like my host, he is very helpful. I lived close to the city centre, and the flat was clean and trim! The trip to Valaam was interesting, but rather long, tiring and expensive. Kizhi Island is very beautiful; I wish we were there more times. I would recommend it! The excursions to the museums were also interesting. But most of all I like the trip to countryside Sholtozero. It was really good to learn new information about veps!!! Moreover it was great that we could meet Russian students. Among Russian volunteers the most helpful was Ksusha. I suppose that we had a good communication with the Russian people, and the atmosphere was very friendly! I can say that this program is cheap and interesting and I felt very well in Petrozavodsk!!!”
Barbara Zauner, Austria: “The first two weeks in Petrozavodsk were excellent. I like the way of teaching, Elsa brought additional materials for grammar exercises. It was a real benefit! The last two weeks were good, but Irina didn’t know how to use them… I really thanked my host family. They were fantastic! The flat was comfortable, clean and beautiful! The excursion to Kizhi was too short (we’ve been here only for 2 hours) and too expensive. As for the place, it was very beautiful. From my point of view the museums in Karelia are very interesting, the excursions there are cheap and guides are competent! However the greatest excursion was to Sholtozero. It was not very expensive. The village is extremely beautiful, the beach was fascinating!!! I think that all the volunteers were really nice and ambitious. It is so nice that they spend their free time with us. The most helpful was Ksenia (Speedy). She was always in good mood and she is a very friendly girl! Katja was also very nice and helpful. So, this program was very good organized, only once it was not very good, when we decided to go to the club, and when we came to the meeting point there were nobody, but I guess it was only a misunderstanding. Finally, the people in Petrozavodsk are very nice, all very ambitious and helpful!”
Martina Hasibeder, Austria: “The curriculum itself was great; the book was good, well structured. Elza focused enough on grammar issues which we had wished and appreciated a lot. She asked if we had special wishes and then brought additional material. As for Irina, she also tried to make lessons more interesting by bringing additional texts and materials. Anyhow I had the feeling that she didn’t want to do the grammar exercises with us! The exercises became boring after 2 weeks as we were always required to talk about ourselves and after we had heard the same stories about the same people over and over again it became a little bit annoying. The course book was ok, but some grammar exercises were boring and I didn’t like that we had to talk about the same things! The living conditions were good. Everything was ok. I had no complaints about my host family. I enjoyed the cultural program, everything was interesting! Russian volunteers were helpful, nice and lovely. “Speedy” Ksjusha wes the best!!! The organization was ok, not much bureaucracy, which is met rarely in Russia, it was very peasant, fast e-mail answers before the start of the course; I had a feeling that everyone takes care of us individually! I think I managed to improve my Russian, the price was also ok, and so were the excursions. Therefore I would recommend other people to come to Russia.”
Eeva Kesküla, Estonia: “The content of the Russian language course was good, but the workbook had occasional mistakes and misprints in it. Teacher ¹1 was excellent, she went through material in a well-organized, well-placed, engaging and youthful way. Elza was a strict and efficient teacher as well as a great friend and a guide to the Russian culture outside the classroom. As for teacher ¹2 Irina it was annoying that she turned most attention to the most capable students and didn’t address the problems of the weaker students. I like that I had a great family and a wonderful house with sauna and a supermarket nearby. I got to meet many relatives. As I was busy with other assignments I didn’t take part in the cultural program. As for volunteers, they did an excellent job, but I think having some male volunteers would be helpful for the group dynamic. I can sum up that everything was really well-organized; to be honest I was ready for more bureaucracy and confusion in Russia. So, I got everything I expected and was promised. Because you are in the environment where you have to speak Russian, this is the best way to start speaking!”
