My father can speak a little Russian. I think the pronunciation is rather difficult. But I know a good English-Russian dictionary, it helps. |

I can't get around to committing myself to learning Russian seriously because I know how many years it's going to take, but more importantly, because I'm afraid that at the end I'll never have progressed beyond passive skills. Almost twenty years ago I was working with some Ukrainians and happily learned some of their language with them and all was well until their sister turned up without a word of English. She couldn't understand a single word I said! The guys later admitted that neither could they except that I only knew what they had taught me and therefore, they could easily guess what I was trying to say in any case. Confidence thus shattered, I have never tried to learn a Slavic language since.
Sometimes I think I should concentrate on Russian phonetics first for around two months then try out some simple phrases on a couple of native speakers. If they don't understand me at that point I think I should take the cue and go back to the languages I have had some success in. Thoughts? |

Hello! Never give up
I think you should continue learning Russian. It seems that you miss it
The best way to break the language barrier and improve your skills is to come to Russia of course
Petrozavodsk (the town where our school "Enjoy Russian" is situated) is an ideal place to practice Russian. Very few people know English or any other language, so from the first day you have to speak. At first it could be difficult, but very soon you feel the progress and satisfaction that you have do it! You can speak Russian in Russia
e would be glad if you decided to come to continue studing passive skills _________________ Learn and enjoy Russian with us http://enjoyrussian.com |
