How to celebrate your Birthday in Russia?
Your birthday is a great day to gather all your friends and family together and accept congratulations, compliments and, of course, presents.
As everywhere it’s impossible to imagine Birthday party without a cake and candles. By the way, very often Russians like to make cakes by themselves and share birthday cake with colleagues at work. People drink tea with different goodies and congratulate birthday boy/girl.
One day in Russia that you won’t forget
Enjoy Russian School also adore such events. This spring we had two birthdays of our students: Iris (in March) and Felix (in May). We had a little tea break at school and made useful and memorable gifts (at least we hope so) to our students. At home they had a festive dinner with their host families and in the evening a birthday party with volunteers.
Can you imagine how exciting is to meet your new year in a new company and town? This day is hardly to forget.
Russian birthday traditions:
- To sing a song : C Днём Рождения тебя! С Днём Рождения тебя! С Днём Рождения,c Днём Рождения, c Днём Рождения тебя!
- To make a circle around a birthday boy/girl and also sing a song: Каравай, каравай, кого хочешь выбирай. And the answer is: я люблю вас всех, но вот этого больше. And choose someone from the circle.
- To pull the ears so many times as how old is the birthday boy/girl
- To wish: Расти большой, не будь лапшой (grow big, but don’t be a noodle)
