In terms of structure, KROODO Centre “Initiative” has three departments:
- Language studio – volunteering activities in Petrozavodsk, language courses of foreign languages for Russians, summer camps for children;
- Education and exchange programs abroad, sending Russian volunteers to ESC (European Solidarity Corps) programs;
- “Enjoy Russian” language school: courses of the Russian language for foreign students and volunteers.
Our organization has been involved in numerous projects to prepare the local community to welcome foreigners, tourists, students, migrants, and visitors. We have large experience in preparing volunteers for their voluntary work in different countries and cultures. We’ve been organizing so many various activities for Russians and foreigners of all ages that we can both use and appreciate any support and fresh ideas from the creative young people, and also we can teach and inspire them.
The aim of the volunteering
We want to bring a change in people’s mentality by showing them alternative ways of thinking and seeing the foreign world and presenting them with its beauty and peculiar aspects. Petrozavodsk is a rather small town and young people often don’t know about the opportunities which intercultural exchange, volunteering and speaking English can give. Children and teenagers are more willing to learn the English language but we want them to become really motivated to learn a foreign language and to be able to discuss various topics with people from different countries, to share ideas and experiences. We especially want to encourage children and teenagers to enjoy English learning, not in a traditional way, but through interactive activities, games, challenges, courses, workshops and many others. Learning a language is not enough if there’s no interest, motivation, ambition. This is also what we aim at raising in them, while also increasing their interest towards internationality, the potential international dimension of their city and region, the foreign world, increase their motivation to learn foreign languages, travel
