… Or make by yourself when in Russia
Since Russian cuisine has plenty of delicious things, (last time we showed weird food) we decided to tell about the top 5 desserts every foreigner should try. Most of them are easy to cook and the products in recipes might be found in ordinary grocery stores. Read, choose and try to cook. Who knows, maybe soon you will impress your friends with some Russian desserts!
It doesn’t matter if you are a tooth-sweet or not! Everyone will find his/her favorite dessert in Russia 🙂
- KARTOSHKA (КАРТОШКА), potato cake
INGREDIENTS: dry&crunchy cookies, condensed milk, cocoa, nuts, liqueur, dried fruits.
WHY SUCH A NAME? Due to its appearance. These cakes do look like potatoes but very dark ones (cocoa, remember?). They are loved by both kids and moms because they are delicious and easy to cook (without baking).
- PTICH’YE MALAKO (ПТИЧЬЕ МОЛОКО), bird’s milk cake
INGREDIENTS: sugar, eggs, gelatin, butter, flour, milk.
WHY SUCH A NAME? Some say it’s because of the fact that cake is too delicious to be real! Since you will never be able to find the bird’s milk in real life, the dessert’s name means something unbelievable and fantastic.
- TVOROZNAYA ZAPEKANKA (ТВОРОЖНАЯ ЗАПЕКАНКА), cottage cheese pudding
INGREDIENTS: cottage cheese, yogurt, sugar, flour, berries, eggs.
WHY SUCH A NAME? Without any sophistication, it just comes from the main ingredient – cottage cheese. But you should take one they sell in Russia because cottage cheese differs from country to country.
Here is our student Felix’s reaction to some other popular desserts. And if you want to try them too, come to learn Russian to our School!
