New theatre season in Petrozavodsk
September is known not only as the first autumn month, but also as a month when all theaters open their doors. Petrozavodsk begins new theatre season with interesting events and new performances. Despite the fact that Petrozavodsk is a small city it can boast a rich cultural life. And there is no doubt that everyone will be able to find something to his/her taste.
The Musical Theatre of the Republic of Karelia
This theatre you will easily recognize by its outstanding view and architecture, what makes it a popular object for tourists’ cameras and postcards. It was established in 1955, the project was designed by a famous architect S.Brodsky. The front of the theatre is decorated with sculptural composition “Friendship of nations”.
The theaters’ repertoire includes musical scenic genres: opera, ballet, operetta, musical comedy, musical.
The Musical Theater opens its doors
The Musical Theater of Karelia starts new season with an “Open Day”. From morning to night, everyone can visit the theater and join the excursion around the city. Also visitors are invited to take part in creative workshops and learn the basics of ballet and acting. And in the end all guests will enjoy a concert of popular classical music with the participation of leading soloists and the Musical Theater Symphony Orchestra.
This year is promised to be very interesting. The Theatre continues to delight its visitors with famous operas and ballets like “Evgeny Onegin” and “The nutckraker”, “Swan Lake” by P.I.Tchaikovsky “Romeo and Juliet” by S.Prokofiev, “La Traviata” by G.Verdi, “Karmen” by J.Bizet, “Korsar” by A.Adan and many other world known masterpieces.
Except more or less traditional repertoire the Musical Theater of Karelia proposes to learn more about Karelian culture through the art. For example, “Krasavitsa Nasto”, a popular and beloved Karelian fairy tail, turned into the libretto on its stage and began a new life. You will see a mystic story about Karelian wood full of magic, witches, spirits and vodianoy
Another pearl of the repertoire is the opera “Karelia prisoner” , based on the novel and written by K.Paustovsky. It was created specially for the The Musical Theater of Karelia. The plot of the opera is closely connected with the history of Petrozavodsk. One of the places of action is the Alexander factory of the beginning of the XIX century, and among the characters real historical characters. This new opera is a new look at the events described by the classic of Russian literature, a bright and full of emotions musical history.
