Some ordinary Russian words with the romantic meaning
Let’s start with Russian words for “boyfriend” and “girlfriend”. It’s interesting because Russians prefer using the words “a guy” and “a girl” in direct meaning when they talk about their boyfriend/girlfriend. These are words ПАРЕНЬ / МОЛОДОЙ ЧЕЛОВЕК and ДЕВУШКА. Without context, it’s hard to understand when we talk about just a random person or mean somebody we love, but when we take into account the whole situation, everything seems to be pretty clear.
Is there any tip to know for sure that someone is talking about his/her love? Yes. If there is the word “my” next to ПАРЕНЬ and ДЕВУШКА, it definitely means that the person is talking about his/her boyfriend/girlfriend. By the way, instead of ПАРЕНЬ / ДЕВУШКА you may use ДРУГ and ПОДРУГА.
