What to taste when in Russia?
Italians eat pieplant candies and drink Karelian NASTOIKA
For those who don’t have a clue Karelia is a region in the North-West of Russia (actually Enjoy Russian school is situated here). Because of the fact that Russia is as big as a small planet every single region has its own unique cuisine and eating traditions. Somewhere in Vladivostok people don’t even know what Karelian pie KALITKA is and people from the Eastern part of Russia never heard of pies PYAN-SE. It’s always interesting to taste something new and also to see how people react to things they never saw.
In the video the guys from Italy try some traditional Karelian food:
- sugar covered cranberries,
- Karelian “nastoika” (liqueur),
- cloudberry jam,
- flax seeds sweets,
- pieplant candies
«It tastes like hay!» What are they talking about? Watch the video to find out!
And if you want to try more Karelian and Russian food just come to #EnjoyRussian language school! Our students attend cooking classes and create their own recipe books! Choose a course and bring your friends some unusual treats from the Russian North!
