The International Marathon took place in the pole of cold
Can you imagine yourself jogging when it’s 25 below 0? Probably you can’t. Now sit down and take a breath. Cople of weeks ago in Yakutia (The Republic of Sakha, the Far East of Russia) participated in the marathon and were running in the cold of – 50! Unbelievably crazy but strong Russians, don’t they?
Who took part in “crazy Russian race” and what was the distance?
16 sportsmen (taking into account the weather conditions it was a good number!) took part in the competition. The youngest one as 21 and the oldest one – 71. They competed on 5 distances – 5, 10, 20, 30 and 42 km, but no one could hit the longest one. The winner – a resident of Yakutia Ilya Pesterev – became a new Russian celebrity. His result – 38 km for 3 hours 53 minutes. When the race started it was 52 below 0, but people still make jokes in social media saying that it became warmer by 1 pm, – 49 degrees 🙂
Do you see how different Russia is from region to region? Here in Petrozavodsk, we enjoy beautiful snowy winter while the survivals of Yakutia are running with frozen beards! 🙂 To imagine how big and how colorful Russia is, register for our Russian immersion courses in Petrozavodsk, the picturesque Republic of Karelia!
