Impress your teacher with knowing classroom vocabulary

When you study English, first of all, you learn classroom phrases and instructions such as What's the English for …? Or Can you repeat, please? It is also essential to know these sentences in the Russian language but not every teacher pays attention to it and all you do is mumbling silly excuse me. We will be glad to introduce you this vocabulary, so you can impress your Russian teacher!

First of all, let's look at phrases for a student that may come in handy:

What's the Russian for…? What do you call it in Russian? Как это по-русски? Как это называется по-русски?
I have a question. У меня (есть) вопрос.
Could you repeat, please? Можете повторить? Повтори(те), пожалуйста.

Can I open the window? Можно открыть окно? Я могу открыть окно?
Can I go out? Можно выйти?
I don't understand. Я не понимаю.
I don't know. Я не знаю.
What does it mean? Что это значит?
May I speak English? Можно по-английски?
I didn't do my homework. Я не сделал(а) домашнее задание.
Could you please write it on the blackboard? Напиши(те) это на доске, пожалуйста.
How do you pronounce this word? Как произносится это слово?
Could you provide examples? Приведи(те) примеры, пожалуйста.
Could you explain it again? Объясни(те) это ещё раз, пожалуйста.
Could you give extra exercises on this topic? Вы можете дать дополнительные/ещё задания по этой теме?
Can you say it slower? Можно медленнее, пожалуйста.

As you can see, it is very typical to say можно when you want to ask for something and пожалуйста to sound polite.

Now it is time to observe some teacher's instructions:

Your turn/my turn. Твоя очередь/моя очередь.
Next. Дальше.
Read the text. Прочитай(те) текст.
Listen and repeat. Слушай(те) и повторяй(те).
Repeat after me. Повторяй(те) за мной.
Open your textbook at page 10. Открой(те) учебник на странице 10.
Close your textbook. Закрой(те) учебник.

Your time is up! Время вышло.
Stand up. Встань(те).

Take a sit. Сядь(те).
Write it down. Запишите/напишите.
Explain. Объясни(те).
Underlined words. Подчёркнутые слова.
Words in bold. Слова, выделенные жирным шрифтом.
Hand-out. Распечатка.
Retell the text. Перескажи(те) текст.
Learn by heart. Выучи(те) наизусть.
Let's call it a day. На сегодня всё. Закончим наш урок.
