Russian flashcards for learning food vocabulary

Food is an essential topic for everyone, that is why it is so important to learn it. Today we want to share with you the most common expressions about food, taste, and eating (in Russian, of course).

Are you a vegetarian (вегетарианец), or a natural food lover (любитель натуральной еды)? Let's learn some new vocabulary to be prepared for a real conversation in Russian. To make the process of learning new words helpful for you, we've prepared flashcards with the adjectives, idioms, and verbs.

Let's talk about the essential characteristics of any dish. Some people prefer salty or spicy dishes, some of them refuse of (отказаться от (+Genitive) salt. By the way, Russian cuisine is not spicy or salty too much, In fact, it can be fat sometimes (because of the mayonnaise, for example)

Another good point is to shed light on losing weight in Russia. To be honest it is common among Russians to keep to a diet (сидеть на диете) to lose weight (худеть/похудеть) two times a year: before the New Year (we call it "похудеть к Новому году" and before the summer (we call it "похудеть к лету").

It is funny because during the New years holidays which last about 10 days we gain weight (толстеть/потолстеть) again because of different salads filled with mayonnaise and other tasty but high-calorie (высококалорийный) food.

Of course, it is important to lead a healthy lifestyle (вести здоровый образ жизни) and we really try to. But when in Russia, taste the wonderful borsch or pancakes with sour cream or sgushenka. You will definitely need these phrases to express your delight!

Every Wednesday our dear students from Great Britain, Italy, Ireland, Finland, France, Spain, Austria, Estonia, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, and Belgium discuss different topics during the Russian online speaking club. This time there were some Russian idioms about healthy and unhealthy food for debates, let's see how they managed it:
