You decided to learn Russian from Russia, and the whole local community appreciates your bravery, determination, and stamina. Host families will give you the taste of their genuine hospitality. There are many adventures that you're about to take on together, including going to the Russian sauna (banya) or having a tea party with kalitki (karelian pies) in a summer cottage. Our educated and kind volunteers would guide through the whole adaptation process and keep you company during your stay. This experience won't be so overwhelming, if you have someone to share it with. Even when you meet someone on the street and ask these persons for help, they will be sincerely happy to do it.
You might think that the immersion is expensive. But Petrozavodsk is a small town that you can easily get to by train, plane, or even bus. Therefore, your expenses won't be as high as you might expect.
Petrozavodsk strives to be an eco-friendly, sustainable town. It is a perfect place to escape from big cities and enjoy nature. Plus, the crime rate here is so low, that you can feel safe.
Of course, you will not dedicate all your time to study the Russian language. We have plenty of entertainment in store. If you like to be active, then go skiing, rafting, canoeing, or riding a horse. In case you are a nature lover, take a trip to the Kivach waterfall, Ruskeala mountain park, and Kizhi island. Provided you want to feel like Karelians, learn to cook their traditional food, play their street games, and dance to their music. It would be a pleasure for our volunteers to accompany you.
